Ducks running marathons
From My Modern Met, Wrinkle the duck has now finished another marathon. She ran the New York City Marathon in 2021, and completed the Jovia Island Marathon in 2022.
I’m excited when I close my exercise ring for the day without actually exercising, and there’s a whole duck out here compleing marathons.

Woodpecker migraines??
Apparently the jury has been out for a while for the question of how woodpeckers don’t have persistent, raging headaches from the incessant concussions. The latest theory is that their brains are the perfect size and placement, not that their tongues cushion the blow, that their skulls are soft enough to not harm the brain, or that they have a special technique for smashing their beaks into things. They’re just tiny.
For now.

How are roosters not deaf?
It turns out that roosters protect their own hearing when they crow by opening their jaw. Not only can they keep their hearing intact by doing so, but if they don’t, they can regrow their damaged hair cells.

Humans have stripes.
